One question we get asked a lot is, “What should I do if my iPhone gets wet?”

Here is what we recommend:

  • Do NOT try to use it or charge it
  • Power it down
  • Take off any case to keep standing water away from the device
  • If the device will not power off, put it in airplane mode to keep calls from coming in and place it face down
  • Resist the urge to “wake it up” to see if it is still working
  • Bring it in to Valley iRepair as soon as possible for a water treatment

WHY CAN’T I USE IT?

If you attempt to use your phone while water is inside, you will send current through the water which could fry the circuitry and motherboard. If that happens there is nothing that can be done to bring it back.

SHOULD I PUT IT IN RICE?

No – save your rice for dinner. Rice might have worked with old push button phones, but it does nothing for newer technology.

WHAT’S THE WORSE you have seen that came back from the dead?

We have successfully repaired phones that have gone through an entire wash cycle! Andwe have fixed more phones than we would like to mention that have taken a dip in the toilet.

IS WATER DAMAGE TREATMENT A GUARANTEE?

Sadly, no. Not all devices can be saved. But the success rate goes up dramatically if all of the above instructions are followed.

IS THERE ANY COST if a phone does not make it?

Yes, we do have to charge a modest fee to help cover the cost of special equipment, cleaning products, and our tech’s time as we try to get your phone back in working order. We wish that every phone could leave like it was new, but sometimes, despite our best efforts, the circuitry is just too damaged.

CAN’T I JUST LET IT DRY OUT?

Trying to let the phone “dry out” is a gamble. Since very little airflow passes through the phone, it’s unlikely that any moisture will evaporate by the time you try to use it again.

WHAT’S THE BEST WATERPROOF CASE?

Valley iRepair doesn’t endorse products. We have repaired water damaged phones that were housed in “waterproof cases” that failed. However, it does not hurt to have the added protection just in case. To select the best case we recommend looking at unbiased customer reviews on sites such as AMAZON.com before making a purchase.
