iPhone 7 Plus Underwater and Telephoto Test

We used our personal iPhone 7 Plus and took some underwater video in our Roanoke office fish tank.  We don’t recommend trying this at home but risked it all for you!  The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus have an IP67 rating for dust and water-resistance.  This mean the phones can be fully submerged in up to 1 meter of water for up to 30 minutes without being damaged.

We also did a side by side comparison of the telephoto of the iPhone 6S Plus vs iPhone 7 Plus.  The iPhone 7 Plus has two side by side lenses, both 12 MP.  One lens is wide angle and one is telephoto.  These two lenses have made it possible for Apple to craft some clever software upgrades allowing for an optical zoom to 2X.  Optical zoom is preferable to digital zoom because there’s no loss of information; the lens does the work.  Digital zoom uses on board processing to take a tighter crop of the image.
